Tragedy Strikes Nigeria: 25 Killed in Horrific Plane Crash, Ghana Mourns
Ghana has extended profound condolences to Nigeria following a tragic ATR 42 plane crash that claimed 25 lives. Both the Ghana Air Force and President John Dramani Mahama conveyed their sympathy, drawing on Ghana's own recent experience with a similar aviation tragedy to emphasize their shared grief and solidarity.
The Ghana Air Force (GHAF) and the Government of Ghana have expressed their deepest condolences to Nigeria following a tragic ATR 42 aircraft accident in Igbokoda, Ondo State, which occurred on October 5 and claimed the lives of 25 people.
Ghana’s Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyei-Frimpong, conveyed the GHAF's profound sympathy in a message to his Nigerian counterpart, Air Marshal Kelvin A. Aneke. The message extended condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Nigerian Air Force, recognizing the immense grief and loss associated with such an incident. Air Vice Marshal Agyei-Frimpong drew on the Ghana Air Force's own experience of a tragic loss a year prior, using this shared experience to underscore the pain faced by the Nigerian Air Force and the affected families. He reaffirmed GHAF’s solidarity with its Nigerian counterpart during this difficult period, stating that the Ghana Air Force stood with them as they mourned the loss, concluding the message with a prayer for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.
In a separate but coordinated effort, President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, also expressed deep condolences to Nigeria. In a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, Ghana affirmed its shared grief following the tragedy. President Mahama extended Ghana’s sympathies to the bereaved families, friends, and colleagues of the victims, as well as to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the wider Nigerian population. The statement further highlighted Ghana's own recent experience with a comparable plane crash, where the nation was still grieving the loss of six Ghanaian compatriots less than a year ago. This prior tragedy, the statement noted, provided Ghana with a deep understanding of the pain and sorrow now being experienced by Nigeria. The government's message emphasized Ghana's solidarity, with its thoughts and prayers directed towards the families who lost their loved ones, as Ghana united with Nigeria in mourning the victims of this devastating incident.
