Mahama Announces GH¢1 Million Trust Funds for Children of Helicopter Crash Victims
President John Dramani Mahama announced a comprehensive support package for families of eight officials who died in a military helicopter crash last year. The initiative includes trust funds, healthcare, and compensation, aiming to ensure the long-term welfare and education of the children left behind. This gesture underscores the government's commitment and national obligation to its fallen heroes.
President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a comprehensive support package for the families of eight officials who died in last year's Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash. The intervention includes financial compensation, healthcare coverage and educational support for the dependants of the deceased.
The victims included senior government officials and military personnel who were travelling on official duty when the helicopter crashed in the Adansi area. Under the Children's Support Fund, 13 trust accounts containing GH¢1 million each have been established for the minor children of the victims and will be professionally managed to support their future educational needs.
Six additional fixed deposit accounts of GH¢1 million each have been created for eligible adult children of some of the deceased officials. President Mahama described the initiative as a national obligation aimed at securing the welfare of the families left behind.
The government has also paid compensation to the dependants of the civilian and military victims in line with Ghanaian law and military regulations. All affected families have been enrolled in the highest-tier nationwide medical insurance package, which provides extensive healthcare coverage through accredited providers across Ghana.
President Mahama further presented commemorative legacy boxes to the families, reaffirming the nation's gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the fallen officials.
