Tragedy Strikes: Anthony Joshua Survives Horrific Car Crash, Fatalities Confirmed
)
British-Nigerian boxing sensation Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car crash on Monday, December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan motorway, specifically near the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis, just before Danco Filling Station in Makun, Ogun State. While the 36-year-old Olympic gold medallist miraculously escaped with minor injuries, the ghastly accident tragically claimed the lives of two individuals: his personal trainer, Latif, known as "Healthy_Mindset" on social media, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina, known as "Sina_Evolve".
According to official police reports and statements from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), five people were involved in the incident. Joshua and another passenger sustained minor injuries, while a third individual suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. The two confirmed fatalities, Latif and Sina, died on the spot. Eyewitness videos and photos circulated on social media depicted the lifeless bodies of the two individuals on the asphalt, with commentary and their physical presentation suggesting they were foreign nationals, aligning with the identities later confirmed.
Both Latif and Sina had been with Joshua in Nigeria, where he was vacationing after his recent lucrative boxing bout against Jake Paul. Latif, a frequent travel companion, had previously holidayed in Nigeria with Joshua and was present during this trip. Sina's social media posts indicated he had only arrived in the country hours before the tragic incident. Social media activity from Joshua and Latif showed the duo engaging in a table tennis game just hours prior to the crash. Furthermore, pictures of Sina coaching Joshua for his bout against Jake Paul had recently resurfaced online. Condolences and prayers have since begun pouring in on the social media pages of both deceased coaches from individuals who knew them personally.
The Federal Road Safety Commission later released official photos of the crash, revealing extensive damage to Joshua's Lexus vehicle. Their statement also provided a detailed cause for the accident, citing excessive speed and an illegal overtaking manoeuvre as the primary contributing factors. Preliminary findings indicated that the Lexus Jeep, suspected of traveling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit, lost control during an attempt to overtake and subsequently crashed into a stationary truck properly parked by the side of the road.
Following the devastating crash, the injured victim was promptly evacuated for medical attention, and the remains of Latif and Sina were conveyed to Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) has been duly notified to conduct further investigations and complete necessary documentation. The FRSC emphasized that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking are serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, on behalf of the FRSC management and staff, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua and the injured victim a speedy recovery.
