Tiny Titan Roams Wild as MDC XT9 Overland Camping Trailer Packs a Punch

The MDC XT9 Overland Camping Trailer may be compact, but it’s packed with features for serious off-grid adventures.

Perfect for explorers who want to venture beyond crowded campsites, this trailer takes the Forte 9 Plus two-person model to the next level with a stronger electrical system, making life off the grid easier and more comfortable.

The XT9 trailer is surprisingly compact about14 inches shorter and 13 inches wider than a 2026 Toyota 4Runner when closed, standing at just 93 inches tall—making it easy to store even in tight spaces. But don’t let its size fool you.

This little beast is built for serious off-road adventures. Unlike many trailers that claim to handle rough terrain but rely on basic beam axles, the XT9 uses the advanced X-Track system with independent trailing arm suspension.

Each side has coil springs and dual Tough Trax HD shocks, so it soaks up bumps and rough trails without rocking or losing stability.

Built tough for adventure, the XT9 features MDC’s Mega Hub system, packed with heavy-duty components like 12-inch electromagnetic brake drums, strong 14-mm wheel studs, and reliable Timken bearings, ready to take on the roughest trails.

It rolls on 16x7.5-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 265/75R16 Goodride MT mud-terrain tires, and for extra convenience, a full-size spare is mounted on the back, so you’re always ready for the long haul.

The XT9 is built tough yet surprisingly light. Its all-aluminum frame and composite aluminum panels give it strong bones, while any non-aluminum parts use galvanized steel for extra durability.

Packed with smart features like a 270-degree awning, pop-up roof, full kitchen, and a high-tech power system featuring a 12V 400Ah lithium battery paired with three 175W solar panels and the XT9 still tips the scales at just 3,300 pounds.

Adventure-ready, without feeling heavy.

Weighing in on the lighter side, the XT9 can be towed by a wide range of vehicles. It sits just under the 3,500-pound max of a 2026 Subaru Outback and is easily handled by a 2026 Ford Maverick with the 4K Tow Package.

To make towing easier and safer, especially for smaller rides, the XT9 comes with a wireless rearview camera and a handy seven-inch portable screen, so backing up is never a guessing game.
