Tinubu's Bold Move: Key Nominations for Ambassadorial Posts Revealed

President Bola Tinubu has put forward a new set of individuals for consideration as non-career ambassadors, expanding on earlier nominations. These latest nominees include prominent figures such as Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, who previously served as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State and was a former Chief of Naval Staff. Also on this list are former Senator Ita Enang, Chioma Ohakim, the former First Lady of Imo State, and Abdulrahman Dambazau, known for his roles as former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff.
These nominations were formally communicated to the Senate through a letter from President Tinubu, which was subsequently read aloud by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a recent plenary session on Thursday. The President emphasized the need for swift consideration of these candidates by the upper chamber to ensure that critical diplomatic positions can be filled without undue delay. The urgency underscores the government's strategic intent to bolster its representation in key international postings.
Following the announcement, Senate President Akpabio directed the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. This committee has been tasked with conducting the necessary screenings of the nominees and is expected to submit its report back to the Senate within a stringent one-week timeframe. This round of nominations comes shortly after President Tinubu had previously named other notable individuals as non-career ambassadors, including former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode, and Mahmood Yakubu, who recently concluded his tenure as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
