A new five-year, $500 million co-exclusive global licensing deal will bring "The Walking Dead" franchise to both Netflix and AMC+ starting in 2027. This comprehensive pact includes the original series and all six spinoffs, creating a unified global destination for the entire universe. The agreement expands access for Netflix worldwide and allows AMC+ to stream the main series for the first time.
AMC Global Media has announced a significant five-year, $500 million co-exclusive global licensing deal that will see "The Walking Dead" franchise stream on both Netflix and AMC+ beginning in 2027. This expansive agreement covers the original "The Walking Dead" series alongside all six of its popular spinoffs. The included spinoffs are "Fear the Walking Dead," "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon," "The Walking Dead: Dead City," "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live," "The Walking Dead: World Beyond," and "Tales of The Walking Dead." In total, this landmark pact encompasses an impressive 371 episodes from across the entire universe.
According to AMC, the licenses for each individual series will commence on different dates across various geographic territories, following the expiration of existing streaming licenses. While Netflix has held the exclusive U.S. streaming rights for the original "The Walking Dead" since 2011, this new deal marks a pivotal moment for both platforms. It will allow AMC+ to stream the main "The Walking Dead" series for the very first time, an offering expected to begin early next year. Concurrently, the agreement extends the show's availability on Netflix in key territories such as the U.K., Italy, Australia, and New Zealand, among others.
Lori Conkling, Vice President of Licensing at Netflix, expressed enthusiasm for the expanded partnership, stating, "Audiences have discovered and loved The Walking Dead on Netflix for nearly 15 years and the show continues to attract new fans. We’re excited to partner with AMC Global Media to continue to expand that access to more audiences around the world and bring the entirety of The Walking Dead Universe to Netflix."
Kristin Dolan, CEO of AMC Global Media, also commented on the strategic importance of the deal, highlighting its ability to create a unified global destination for the franchise. "We are thrilled to expand our long-time partnership with Netflix around The Walking Dead," Dolan said. "This deal creates a global destination for this universe – all shows, all episodes – making the franchise more accessible than ever to fans around the world. In addition, the co-exclusive agreement allows us to bring the original series to AMC+ for the first time early next year. Netflix has been an important partner in making The Walking Dead one of the most successful franchises in the history of entertainment. This agreement is a fantastic result for our companies, for the fans and for this timeless IP." The collaboration aims to significantly broaden the reach and accessibility of the beloved zombie apocalypse saga to a worldwide audience.
