The Rock's Epic $90 Million Fantasy Reboot Ignites Global Streaming!

Dwayne Johnson, despite recent discussions surrounding the underperformance of his new A24 MMA biopic, is currently seeing one of his previous fantasy reboots, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, experience a resurgence on global streaming charts. This 2017 body-swap comedy, which features Johnson alongside Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart, follows four teenagers who are unexpectedly drawn into a magical video game, necessitating their teamwork to escape.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle recently premiered on HBO Max internationally, swiftly climbing to the #4 spot on streaming charts at the time of writing. While it enjoys widespread popularity in overseas markets, the film is not currently available for streaming in the United States. However, given its continued global appeal and ongoing updates regarding future installments, it is anticipated to return to a major U.S. streaming service soon.
The film boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Johnson, Black (known for The Super Mario Bros. Movie), and Gillan (of Guardians of the Galaxy fame). It also features Johnson’s frequent collaborator, Kevin Hart, along with Bobby Cannavale and Nick Jonas. Notably, only Nick Jonas returned for the 2019 sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level.
Serving as both a reboot and a continuation, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle exists within the same universe as the 1995 classic starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, but introduces an entirely new cast and narrative. The film was largely well-received by both critics and audiences, earning respective scores of 77% and 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Commercially, it was a massive success, grossing an impressive $962 million globally, just shy of the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Exciting news for fans confirms that another Jumanji movie is actively in development. Producer Hiram Garcia has verified that production for this next installment has already commenced. The new Jumanji film is tentatively scheduled for release on December 11, 2026, placing it one week before major releases like Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three. It is plausible that the release dates for Jumanji and Dune may shift to create more separation. The original cast members from the first two rebooted Jumanji movies are expected to reprise their roles in Jumanji 3, with Jake Kasdan returning as director. This upcoming movie is slated to be the final chapter in the current rebooted story arc. For those in America, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is available on VOD.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is rated PG-13, falls under the genres of Action, Adventure, and Comedy, and was released on December 5, 2017, with a runtime of 119 minutes. Directed by Jake Kasdan, the screenplay was penned by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner. It is a sequel to the original Jumanji and precedes Jumanji: The Next Level, with a planned Jumanji 4 indicated as a future installment in the franchise.
