The Force Awakens! Star Wars Returns to Big Screen with Epic 'Mandalorian & Grogu' Footage at CinemaCon

The upcoming film The Mandalorian and Grogu” will hit theaters next month, but the first 17 minutes of the film were shown during Disney’s presentation at CinemaCon, the annual convention for movie theater owners held in Las Vegas.

The trailer starts with Grogu meditating in a forest while Yoda’s Theme plays, showing his strong connection to the Force.

It focuses on Din Djarin and Grogu working with the New Republic to hunt down former Imperial criminals and keep peace after the Empire’s fall.

The story feels more emotional, as Grogu begins to grow and learn. Din explains their bond simply: “The old protect the young and then the young protect the old.”

It also shows new enemies like bounty hunters, Anzellans, and the Hutt Twins.

At CinemaCon, a scene shows Mando sneaking into a secret Empire meeting on a snowy planet. He fights Snowtroopers using weapons and fire, while Grogu helps by using the Force to stop a droid, which explodes.

They escape by stealing a small AT-ST walker and race through icy cliffs while being chased by giant AT-ATs.

Mando destroys one walker, jumps onto another, and finally shoots down an escaping enemy pod, winning the fight.

After finishing a dangerous mission, Mando, Grogu, and their pilot Zeb Orrelios return to a New Republic base.

They are met by Ward, a strict leader played by Sigourney Weaver. She is unhappy they destroyed their target without getting information, but she still sends them on a new mission: to rescue Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son, from enemy gangsters.

Jeremy Allen White voices Rotta the Hutt, while Sigourney Weaver’s character will guide Mando on a journey across the Outer Rim.

She also said she enjoyed acting alongside Grogu, calling him a “little badass.”

Director Jon Favreau explained that Grogu has grown since Season 3 of The Mandalorian. He is now more skilled in the Force and has a stronger bond with Mando, becoming more like an apprentice and family member.

The Mandalorian and Grogu continues the story after the Empire falls in Return of the Jedi. It is set in the early days of the New Republic, about 25 years before The Force Awakens.

This time period is shown in Disney+ series like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew.

These stories show the galaxy trying to rebuild while dealing with leftover Imperial forces, and other shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and The Acolyte explore different parts of Star Wars history.

Unlike older Star Wars movies, this film does not start with the usual opening crawl. Instead, it uses simple yellow text to explain what is happening in the New Republic.

A new Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, will come out on May 28, 2027. It is directed by Shawn Levy and stars actors like Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, and Amy Adams.
