The Boys Saga Concludes! Jack Quaid Gears Up for New Horizon as Series Finale Looms

Jack Quaid, a charming and affable star, recently reflected on a significant year in his career, marked by a diverse range of projects and the impending conclusion of his beloved series, The Boys. Recalling a lighthearted encounter at the premiere of his action vehicle, the rom-com thriller Novocaine, Quaid humorously recounted how journalists, including the interviewer, took turns punching a custom arcade bag featuring his likeness. This surreal experience, where he even joined in on punching his own mug, underscored his joyful approach to his work and interactions.
Quaid's 2025 was exceptionally busy and varied. He kicked off the year starring alongside Sophie Thatcher in the horror hit Companion, followed by Novocaine two months later. The indie crime drama Neighborhood Watch then premiered, and by summer, he delivered a scene-stealing performance in Prime Video's Heads of State with Idris Elba and John Cena. Quaid expressed immense satisfaction with this variety, noting, "I love that they were all so different... I got to show different sides of myself. That was just an actor's dream, all the various budget ranges and distribution deals." His roles spanned a conniving villain, a forlorn action hero, a troubled man, and a capable CIA agent, demonstrating his versatility beyond his well-known character, Hughie.
His most acclaimed role as Hughie Campbell in Prime Video's cynically violent superhero series, The Boys, is approaching its final season. Quaid credits showrunner Eric Kripke for giving him his first major opportunity and shaping Hughie as the show's "heart and soul." Despite the grim and often uncomfortable nature of The Boys, Hughie's unshakable optimism remains a strong draw for fans. Quaid believes this trait is a deliberate message from the show: "What I love about what Eric wrote is that we're basically saying hope is a choice. And it's a really tough choice to make... it's actually an act of resistance that's a badass choice to have. Hope. It's not negative." He sees heroism in the show not as grand gestures, but as "everyday people doing something, little things here and there, to make the world a better place."
The Boys is also renowned for its prescient political commentary, eerily mirroring real-world events. Quaid observed that while the show exaggerates contemporary society by 40 percent, the world often catches up, reducing that gap to just the presence of superpowers. He finds catharsis in using art to comment on the world's struggles, likening the show to "South Park with capes." This includes plots, filmed in 2024, depicting "dissenters" imprisoned in camps for opposing the villainous Homelander, which frighteningly anticipated real-world events.
Quaid's own background is deeply rooted in Hollywood, as the son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, and nephew of '90s folk musician Andrew Hyra. He shared a heartwarming anecdote about making "Jack's Christmas Classics" with his uncle at age four, improvising songs with tonsillitis. This early experience of creative fearlessness has been a theme in his life. He admitted to being most fearful in his twenties when starting on The Boys, wanting desperately not to "mess this up." Now at 33, his goal is to achieve maximum relaxation, believing it leads to his best work. This evolving perspective on fear informs his portrayal of Hughie in the final season, where the character, having endured countless traumas, operates with a new sense of confidence and invincibility, inspiring Quaid to aspire to Hughie's resilience.
Beyond The Boys, Quaid also lends his voice to Clark Kent and Superman in the animated series My Adventures With Superman on Adult Swim. He appreciates the contrast between this optimistic, altruistic portrayal of Superman and the dark, gritty world of The Boys, stating, "I love that I get to play both sides of that superhero coin." He expressed confidence in My Adventures With Superman's future despite changes at Warner Bros. Discovery and praised James Gunn's vision for the new DC Universe, enthusiastically endorsing David Corenswet's performance in the latest Superman movie, calling it "hopecore" and deeply moving.
A self-proclaimed geek, Quaid is an avid gamer, horror fan, and comic book enthusiast. He dreams of starring in a BioShock adaptation and discussed his love for single-player games. He readily embraced the moniker "Blood King," noting how frequently his characters end up covered in blood across projects like Scream, Companion, and Tragedy Girls. He also relishes playing villainous roles, enjoying the freedom of a character unbound by morality and the thrill of subverting audience expectations. He recounted the satisfaction of hearing cheers when his villainous character died in Companion, signifying a job well done.
Fans may soon see Quaid collaborate on screen with his mother, Meg Ryan. The two recently performed together for the first time in a live sketch comedy show at Upright Citizens Brigade. Ryan, initially unprepared for the "fake acting class" premise, naturally excelled, surprising herself and delighting Quaid. While future collaborations remain "tomorrow's problem," Quaid expresses openness to returning to The Boys universe spinoffs, driven by his gratitude for the show and its team. His proximity to all things geeky, coupled with his deep appreciation for the unique superhero universe The Boys created, suggests that a future role as an enhanced being in a shared universe feels almost inevitable.
