Tech Titan's Turmoil: Paystack Ousts Co-Founder Amid Scandal
Paystack, the Nigerian fintech company acquired by Stripe in 2020, has terminated the employment of its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following public allegations of sexual relations with a junior employee. Olubi announced his firing in a blog post on Saturday, November 23, 2025, stating that the decision was made prior to the completion of the company’s internal investigation.
The controversy first emerged in mid-November 2025 when a social media post went viral, alleging abusive behavior by Olubi. This post subsequently led social media users to resurface a series of explicit tweets from earlier in Olubi's career, some dating back to 2009-2013. These resurfaced materials, which included sexually explicit jokes and remarks, were widely described as predatory, intensifying public scrutiny on Paystack.
In response to the initial allegations and public outcry, Paystack confirmed that it had suspended Olubi and initiated a formal investigation. The company indicated its intention to establish a review process and appoint an independent investigator to look into the matter.
However, Olubi's blog post revealed that he was not afforded a meeting or an opportunity to respond before his contract was ended. He asserted that his termination appeared to contravene the terms of his suspension and Paystack’s internal policies. Olubi stated, "My legal team is now reviewing the process that led to my purported termination, including its consistency with internal policies. They will take the steps they consider appropriate, and I will not be commenting further on this matter at this time."
This incident has reignited discussions and calls for stronger workplace accountability across Africa’s rapidly expanding tech sector. Several high-profile misconduct allegations in the region have previously compelled tech companies to address critical governance and cultural issues within their organizations.
As of the time of publication, Paystack had not issued a fresh public statement following Olubi’s blog post. It remains unclear whether Stripe, Paystack's parent company, will provide further comments on the situation. Any potential legal action initiated by Olubi could lead to new disclosures or court proceedings, which would further clarify the facts surrounding the allegations and the company’s internal processes. Techpoint Africa reported reaching out to Paystack for comment but did not receive an immediate response. This situation is noted as a developing story.
