Taylor Swift Shatters Records as 'The Fate of Ophelia' Dominates Adult Pop Airplay

Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” has ascended to the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Adult Pop Airplay chart as of Nov. 29, making it her 14th leader on the list. This achievement solidifies her standing as the solo artist with the most No. 1s on this chart, surpassed overall only by Maroon 5, who hold 15. The track also made history with its debut at No. 8 on Oct. 18, marking the highest debut ever on the chart.
Concurrently, “The Fate of Ophelia” maintains its top spot on the Pop Airplay chart for a second consecutive week and leads the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive seventh week. Its parent album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” mirrors this success by also ruling the Billboard 200 for a seventh week.
Achieving simultaneous No. 1 positions on the Billboard 200, Hot 100, Pop Airplay, and Adult Pop Airplay charts is a remarkably rare feat. Swift is the first artist to accomplish this since Harry Styles in June 2022, whose album “Harry’s House” and lead single “As It Was” held concurrent commands for two weeks. Other elite artists who have claimed such concurrent commands include Adele with “30” and “Easy On Me” (Dec. 11 & 18, 2021), Ed Sheeran with “Divide” and “Shape of You” (March 25 & April 1, 2017), Adele with “25” and “Hello” (Dec. 12, 19 & 26, 2015), Taylor Swift herself with “1989” and “Blank Space” (Jan. 3 & 10, 2015), and Adele again with “21” and “Rolling in the Deep” (June 25, 2011).
A recap of Swift’s 14 Adult Pop Airplay No. 1s reveals her consistent dominance: “The Fate of Ophelia” (one week to date, 2025), “Fortnight,” feat. Post Malone (one week, 2024), “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” (one week, 2024), “Cruel Summer” (23 weeks, 2023), “Karma” (two weeks, 2023), “Anti-Hero” (nine weeks, 2022-23), “Willow” (three weeks, 2021), “Delicate” (four weeks, 2018), “Wildest Dreams” (four weeks, 2015), “Bad Blood” (three weeks, 2015), “Style” (two weeks, 2015), “Blank Space” (six weeks, 2014-15), “Shake It Off” (eight weeks, 2014), and “I Knew You Were Trouble.” (one week, 2013).
“The Fate of Ophelia” notably dethrones Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” which had a formidable 25-week run at the top of Adult Pop Airplay. This lengthy reign tied Santana’s “Smooth,” featuring Rob Thomas, for the longest No. 1 run in the chart’s history.
The longest-leading Adult Pop Airplay No. 1s include: “Ordinary” by Alex Warren (25 weeks, beginning June 7, 2025), “Smooth” by Santana feat. Rob Thomas (25 weeks, Oct. 23, 1999), “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift (23 weeks, Aug. 26, 2023), “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling (23 weeks, Dec. 22, 2001), and “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd (20 weeks, May 23, 2020).
The Adult Pop Airplay chart, which first appeared in Billboard in March 1996, ranks songs based on weekly plays across nearly 80 adult top 40 radio stations. This data is monitored by Mediabase and provided to Billboard by Luminate.
