Tanzania's tourism service providers are being strongly encouraged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency, and customer care as the nation gears up to host a series of significant international events over the next two years. This crucial directive was issued by the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hamad Hassan Chande, during the inauguration of a specialized training programme designed for tourism value chain service providers operating at the country's airports.

Mr. Chande emphasized that delivering high-quality services, particularly at Tanzania's key entry points, is paramount to enhancing visitors' experiences and fortifying the country's global reputation as a premier tourism destination. He stressed that even with world-class tourist attractions, luxurious hotels, and exquisite restaurants, the nation's tourism efforts would fall short if the initial services provided to visitors upon arrival at airports did not meet stringent international standards. The quality of service tourists receive from their very first moment in Tanzania is pivotal in shaping their overall perception and significantly influences future visitor numbers.

The Deputy Minister highlighted that Tanzania is diligently preparing to host several major international events and conferences, which are anticipated to provide a substantial boost to tourist arrivals and elevate the country's international profile. These upcoming events include the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in October this year, which will convene parliamentary leaders and delegates globally, and the World Travel Awards Grand Final slated for later this year. Furthermore, preparations are well underway for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a prestigious tournament expected to draw a massive influx of international visitors.

The government's expectations for the training programme are high, aiming to strengthen participants' understanding of vital aspects such as professional ethics, meticulous customer care, paramount tourist safety protocols, effective communication strategies, and the critical importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the tourism industry. Mr. Chande reiterated that these training initiatives are designed to elevate professionalism and improve the quality of services extended to visitors, thereby contributing directly to the sustained growth of the tourism sector.

Echoing these sentiments, the Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ayoub Mohamed Mahmoud, confirmed that the government, through its Immigration Department, is in the final phases of overhauling and improving service delivery systems for foreign visitors. These reforms include streamlining visa application procedures, addressing past challenges that impacted immigration services, and ultimately reducing inconvenience for travelers, especially tourists. Mr. Mahmoud stated that these improvements would significantly enhance efficiency and accessibility of services for all visitors arriving in Tanzania.

He further underscored that tourism remains one of the primary catalysts for Tanzania's economic growth. Consequently, it is imperative for officers stationed at airports and border posts to execute their duties with utmost professionalism, courtesy, and hospitality.
