Tanzania's Tourism Takes Flight: Tanapa and Zati Unite for Global Hub Push
The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and the Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors (ZATI) have formally cemented a significant cooperation agreement, signaling a major step towards bolstering tourism and investment across Tanzania. This strategic partnership, signed yesterday during a ceremony, aims to broaden tourism offerings, attract new investors, and solidify Tanzania's standing as a premier international tourism destination.
Dr. Aboud Jumbe, Permanent Secretary of the Zanzibar Ministry of Tourism, led the signing ceremony and lauded TANAPA for establishing its Liaison Office in Zanzibar, which served as the foundational step for this pivotal collaboration. Dr. Jumbe underscored the unwavering commitment of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to work alongside TANAPA in enhancing the investment landscape within the national parks of Tanzania Mainland.
A core objective of this agreement is to encourage visitors to Zanzibar to extend their stays by exploring the national parks on the mainland, rather than departing immediately. This initiative is designed to stimulate investment, upgrade essential infrastructure, expand a diverse range of tourism services, and generate more employment opportunities for the local population.
John Nyamhanga, TANAPA's Senior Assistant Conservation Commissioner, affirmed that this partnership will significantly strengthen investment in tourism products and accommodation services. He anticipates that this will, in turn, lead to an increase in the duration of tourists' stays within the parks, consequently boosting revenue for both TANAPA and the nation as a whole. Nyamhanga highlighted TANAPA's management of 21 national parks, each boasting unique attractions that perfectly complement Zanzibar's tourism appeal and contribute substantially to the national income.
Furthermore, the agreement is projected to foster greater participation from the private sector, improve access to vital market information, and enhance the flow of tourists from Zanzibar to the mainland. This coordinated effort will effectively promote both beach and wildlife tourism, creating a comprehensive tourist experience.
Dr. Halima Kiwango, Assistant Conservation Commissioner and Head of the TANAPA Liaison Office in Zanzibar, reiterated that the agreement aligns with ongoing efforts to fortify relationships between TANAPA, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, the private sector, and various tourism stakeholders, all with the goal of expanding the tourism market.
On behalf of ZATI, Chairman Suleiman Ali Mohamed, stated the association's continued dedication to investment and international marketing. This focus aims to accelerate investment growth and effectively promote the distinct attractions of both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Ultimately, this comprehensive agreement is expected to streamline information access, integrate marketing systems, and strengthen collaborative tourism initiatives between Zanzibar and Tanzania's National Parks.
