South Africa's Charity Crescendo: Thousands Sing to Raise R900k for Kids
The SPAR Carols By Candlelight event, a sold-out concert held at the SunBet Arena in Menlyn, successfully turned music into miracles for children in need, raising a significant amount for charity. Attracting over 7,000 fans, the event showcased a powerful demonstration of Christmas spirit, uniting thousands of people for a worthy cause.
This heartwarming concert generated an impressive R927,216 through ticket sales and donations. This substantial sum is dedicated to directly supporting those most in need during the holiday season. The beneficiaries include thirteen children's homes and organizations, each receiving R20,000 to aid their operational costs and continued care for children. Furthermore, the funds enabled an additional 1,200 children to receive Santa Shoeboxes, filled with essential items and treats, bringing joy and comfort during Christmas.
Beyond the direct beneficiaries, the event also acknowledged the hard work of staff members, with 192 workers receiving hampers as a gesture of gratitude for their dedication. The stage was graced by a lineup of top artists, including the acclaimed Ndlovu Youth Choir, Elandré, Lloyd Cele, and Jesse Clegg, who delivered world-class entertainment to the appreciative audience.
Vuyani Dombo, Managing Director of Jacaranda FM, underscored the profound impact of the event, stating that it transcended mere musical performances. He remarked, "The fact that we were a sold-out show and raised nearly a million rand is a huge testament to the heart and kindness of our listeners." Dombo highlighted the concert's dual purpose of blending high-quality entertainment with crucial community upliftment. For those who could not attend the live show, the festive atmosphere and full event will be rebroadcast throughout 24 December on the Jacaranda FM website, allowing more people to experience the holiday vibes.
