The new offering, termed a "patching service," is designed to specifically target the nation's 3,000 leading companies that manage crucial infrastructure. Son articulated his conviction, stating, "I feel it is our duty," to protect these essential entities from what he repeatedly referred to as "the bad guys," emphasizing the moral imperative behind SoftBank's initiative. The service will meticulously identify any existing weaknesses or vulnerabilities within these systems, followed by a comprehensive analysis to determine and implement the necessary corrective measures, effectively "patching up such 'holes'."
The partnership between SoftBank and OpenAI, the creators of the widely popular chatbot ChatGPT, was solidified last year with the establishment of SB OAI Japan, a 50:50 joint venture. This collaboration was formed with the explicit purpose of developing and exclusively marketing an AI service tailored for the Japanese market. Although OpenAI's chief, Sam Altman, was originally slated to attend the Tokyo launch, he made a virtual appearance via a short video message, citing the unexpected early birth of his baby daughter.
