Shocking Twist: CCTV Footage Reveals Fatal Ramming in Jirongo's Death, DCI Widens Probe

Former Cabinet Minister and Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo tragically lost his life in a road crash last week, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a thorough probe. Investigators are examining the incident as a potential case of dangerous driving, with homicide and forensics experts meticulously collecting evidence and pursuing multiple leads.
CCTV footage from the Eagol Petrol Station along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway provides a detailed timeline of the fatal events. The recordings show Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz being struck by a Climax passenger bus as he exited the station in the Karai area on Saturday, December 13. According to investigators:
02:18:40 A.M.: Jirongo drove into the petrol station from Nairobi but did not refuel.
02:19:10 A.M.: He stopped at the station’s exit.
02:19:19 A.M.: Jirongo made a right turn heading back toward Nairobi.
02:19:25 A.M.: The PSV bus collided with his vehicle, propelling it 25 meters from the impact point. The bus itself traveled another 50 meters before halting.
The bus driver, Tyrus Kamau Githinji, was identified and taken in for questioning. He has since been released on cash bail, pending further investigations into causing death by dangerous driving. Kamau is required to report to the Naivasha Traffic Base on December 22, 2025, for follow-up action. Speaking to journalists after providing his statement, he said he faced a “difficult choice between saving Jirongo and the 65 passengers on board.”
Investigators have also interrogated the fuel attendant and night guard at the petrol station. Friends and associates who accompanied Jirongo to the Karen Oasis Bar and Restaurant in Nairobi earlier that evening, as well as passengers from the bus and other witnesses, are expected to provide statements to assist authorities. Reports indicate that Jirongo had attended a social event shortly before the crash and had a scheduled meeting later that day.
Authorities continue to scrutinize all angles to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision, while the public awaits further findings from the DCI.
