Sensational Soccer Swap! Lucas Paqueta Returns to Flamengo in Staggering £35.5M Deal

Brazilian international midfielder Lucas Paqueta, aged 28, has finalized a permanent transfer to his former club Flamengo, departing West Ham United for a fee exceeding 41 million euros (£35.5 million). Paqueta, who developed through the youth ranks at the Brazilian club, returns to his roots after a successful spell in England.
Paqueta initially joined West Ham in 2022 from Lyon and quickly established himself as a pivotal player for the Hammers. During his time at the London Stadium, he made a total of 139 appearances, contributing significantly with 23 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. He was granted permission to fly to Brazil earlier in the week to complete the permanent switch before the transfer deadline on February 2.
Although West Ham had expressed openness to a deal that would have seen the Brazil international remain with the club on loan for the remainder of the season, Flamengo pushed for an immediate and permanent move. The Brazilian side successfully secured a long-term contract for Paqueta, which will run until December 2030.
At the time of his transfer, Paqueta had 18 months remaining on his contract with West Ham. This season, he featured in 18 Premier League matches, scoring four goals. His departure leaves Nuno Espirito Santo's West Ham side currently sitting third from bottom in the Premier League table, five points away from safety, as they prepare to visit Chelsea on Saturday at 17:30 GMT.
