Salah Saudi Transfer Saga Ignites: Liverpool Star Eyed by Pro League CEO

Saudi Pro League clubs have confirmed their interest in Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool forward whose future at Anfield has become uncertain following a public dispute with manager Arne Slot. Salah was notably excluded from the squad for Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League victory against Inter Milan, highlighting growing internal tension at the club.
The saga intensified after Liverpool’s 3-3 Premier League draw at Leeds, where Salah expressed feeling "thrown under the bus" and raised concerns about his relationship with Slot. While Slot initially suggested a potential reconciliation, he later admitted uncertainty regarding whether Salah would feature again, fueling speculation about a departure during the upcoming January transfer window.
Speaking at the World Football Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Pro League chief executive Omar Mugharbel confirmed that Salah is a target for the league’s clubs. Mugharbel stated, "Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi League, but it is the clubs that are responsible for negotiating with players. For sure, Salah is one of them." Despite having a contract with Liverpool until 2027, ongoing public friction may open the door for a high-profile move.
Not all parties in Saudi football support the potential transfer. Al Kholood chairman Ben Harburg criticized the move, arguing that Salah, at 33, may be "a bad fit" and prefers younger "next-wave players" like Vinícius Júnior. Harburg highlighted public apprehension about signing a player who could view the league as the "last stop of his career."
Liverpool is currently enduring a challenging period, with nine losses in 15 games. Salah’s high-profile statements have further intensified scrutiny over the club’s form and strategy, making his potential departure one of the most closely watched stories in European and Middle Eastern football.
