Rwanda's President Kagame Seals Major Music Deal as Kigali Hosts Third Move Afrika Concert!
President Paul Kagame recently met with Hugh Evans, the founder and CEO of Global Citizen, the organization spearheading the 'Move Afrika' concert series. The meeting, held at Urugwiro Village on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, focused on the significant positive impact of the partnership on Rwanda's creative economy. Discussions also covered the broader work being undertaken across vital sectors, including health and education, underscoring a holistic approach to development through cultural initiatives.
This high-level engagement occurred as Kigali hosted the third edition of the 'Move Afrika' series, headlined by the Grammy-winning sensation Doja Cat at the BK Arena. This event further cemented Kigali's growing reputation as a prominent hub for global music tours on the African continent. The 'Move Afrika' initiative is a five-year project designed by Global Citizen to establish a long-term, world-class touring circuit across Africa.
From its inception, Rwanda was strategically chosen as the anchor location for this ambitious continent-wide tour, with Kigali having proudly hosted the inaugural event. The initiative's core mission extends beyond simply organizing large-scale live music events; it is deeply committed to fostering local creative industries and supporting community programs within the host cities. Previous successful editions of 'Move Afrika' showcased performances by Kendrick Lamar in 2023 and John Legend in 2025, consistently attracting top-tier global talent. Beyond the entertainment aspect, 'Move Afrika' is actively creating valuable job and upskilling opportunities for young people in Rwanda, reinforcing its commitment to socio-economic development through cultural endeavors.
