Royal Security Crisis: Prince Andrew 'Threatened Near Home,' Man Charged Amid Calls for Reinstated Taxpayer Protection

Alex Jenkinson, a 39-year-old man, has been charged with harassment following an alleged incident on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, near Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's home in Wolferton, Norfolk. The incident reportedly occurred close to Marsh Farm, Andrew's current residence on King Charles' private Sandringham estate, where he relocated after being stripped of his royal titles in November 2025 and moving from the Royal Lodge in Windsor due to his association with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Police officers were called to the scene shortly after 7:30 PM on May 6, 2026, responding to reports of a man behaving in an intimidating manner in the village. According to reports, Jenkinson allegedly confronted Andrew, 66, while he was walking his dogs, potentially in possession of a crowbar, and shouted threats. Andrew, although unhurt, was left shaken by the encounter and reportedly rushed back to his car before driving away at speed. His private security detail, which accompanied him, was also involved, and both Andrew and his protection officer were asked to provide statements.
Jenkinson was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon and taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He has since been charged with two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to harass someone or cause alarm or distress. Additionally, he faces a charge of failing to provide a specimen of blood in custody. Jenkinson, identified as being from Stowmarket, Suffolk, and later Debenham, Suffolk, was initially remanded into custody.
During his appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court, Jenkinson pleaded not guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence against Andrew. He also denied a similar charge involving another man, Stephen Terry, in King's Lynn on the same day. However, Jenkinson pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to provide a specimen of blood in custody. He was granted conditional bail, which prohibits him from approaching Andrew directly or indirectly, or going within 500 metres of royal residences such as Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, Windsor, and Highgrove. His trial is scheduled for July 29 at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is expected to give evidence via videolink from a location yet to be determined.
Following the incident, concerns about Andrew's personal safety have been reignited. Sources close to Andrew argue that despite no longer being a working member of the Royal Family, the threat to his safety is greater than ever, citing potential terror attacks and fixated individuals due to his high public profile. His taxpayer-funded security provision was removed by King Charles in 2024, a decision re-evaluated by some in light of this event. While the King now provides an allowance for Andrew's private security, its utilization remains at Andrew's discretion.
The move to Marsh Farm on the largely public Sandringham estate has introduced new security challenges, a contrast to the enhanced protections he enjoyed at Royal Lodge in Windsor. Previous security incidents at Marsh Farm include a man and a girl reportedly scaling the exterior gate in April. In response to these concerns, significant security upgrades have been implemented at Marsh Farm, including the installation of a 6ft perimeter fence, CCTV cameras, and a substantial white mobile home to house security personnel. Furthermore, the no-fly zone covering the Sandringham Estate has been extended to encompass Marsh Farm.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who previously settled a civil suit in the US with Virginia Giuffre for millions of pounds in 2022 and stepped down from his trade representative role in 2011 amid the Epstein scandal, remains under investigation following an unrelated arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February. This latest incident underscores the ongoing complexities surrounding his public life and personal security.
