Tinubu Assures Nigerians of Improved Security, Economic Stability After Meeting Catholic Bishops

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that ongoing reforms within the country's security architecture will strengthen efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Abuja, he said the government is improving intelligence gathering, expanding the armed forces and investing in military equipment and personnel welfare.

He urged religious leaders to support national efforts to restore peace and stability across the country. The President also expressed optimism about Nigeria's economic outlook, stating that his administration has stabilised the economy and is implementing interventions to reduce poverty and create opportunities for citizens.

He cited initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the uninterrupted academic calendar in public universities as signs of progress. Tinubu further maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has remained neutral in conducting elections and noted that state governors have the constitutional authority to decide on the return of mission schools.

Catholic Bishops Raise Security and Education Concerns

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria commended the Federal Government for strengthening diplomatic ties with the Vatican but raised concerns over insecurity, poverty, education and democratic governance. The bishops called for credible elections, increased access to tertiary education and fair treatment for all religious groups across the country. They also urged the President to consider the return of mission schools and sustain efforts aimed at improving the welfare and security of Nigerians.
