Political Showdown: Fubara Sacks Commissioners Amidst Assembly Screening Fury!

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the immediate sacking of all commissioners and other public officers who were not screened by the Speaker Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly serving under his administration. This decisive action, confirmed by a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, is a direct consequence of a Supreme Court decision issued on February 28, 2025.
The announcement of these dismissals followed an Independence Day cabinet session, which also served as a valedictory gathering. During this session, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the members of his cabinet and other political appointees for their dedicated services and contributions to the development of Rivers State over the past two years.
While the official statement did not specify the names of the affected commissioners or officials, it is widely understood that the majority of those appointed by Governor Fubara amidst his notable disagreement with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had not undergone screening by the then Amaewhule-led House of Assembly. These appointments were made after their predecessors, who had shown loyalty to Wike, resigned en masse.
In his Independence Day address, Governor Fubara underscored the importance of Nigeria’s independence, urging all citizens to collaborate with the President to foster a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation, ensuring a brighter future for everyone. He also reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to serving Rivers State with renewed vigor, extending his thanks to all citizens for their support and wishing all Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary.
