Political Earthquake Looms: Akpabio Hints At Mass Opposition Defections To APC

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, recently declared that an increasing number of governors from opposition parties are making preparations to align with President Bola Tinubu and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This announcement was made during the launch of a book titled ‘Ten Years Of Impactful Leadership of The APC Administration In Nigeria’, authored by Governor Hope Uzodimma in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Tuesday.
During the event, Akpabio directly addressed President Tinubu, stating, “Mr President, with what you have done in the last two years, get ready to receive more governors from the opposition parties. As I speak, there are several governors in Nigeria today that are ready to be received by you.” He emphasized that Nigerians are already witnessing and acknowledging the positive outcomes of the Tinubu-led administration, with various segments of society, including students, farmers, and businessmen, speaking positively about the reforms introduced. Akpabio highlighted that while political figures might be accused of 'rubber-stamping' achievements, the true beneficiaries are the ones vocalizing their satisfaction with the government's actions.
Akpabio also expressed his strong belief in development and progress, commending Governor Uzodimma for documenting the history of the APC administration's impactful leadership over the past decade. He underscored the importance of telling one's own story, asserting that “If you don’t tell your story, others will tell it for you.” Furthermore, Akpabio remarked that progressiveness is demonstrated through action rather than mere words, praising the high quality of works executed by Governor Uzodimma, which he believes has greatly excited the people of Imo State.
Reflecting on his own political journey, Akpabio mentioned that as the governor of Akwa Ibom State 18 years prior, he had already demonstrated progressive leadership through the projects he undertook. He concluded by extending his congratulations to Governor Uzodimma and the National leadership of the ruling party for their collective achievements over the last ten years.
