Political Earthquake: Amaechi Declares Presidential Bid with N90m Nomination Form

Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, has officially obtained the presidential nomination form for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that a delegation led by John Odigie-Oyegun, a former Governor of Edo State, collected the form on Mr. Amaechi’s behalf at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday. The forms were then presented to Mr. Amaechi’s representatives by Atiku Mohammed, the ADC Deputy National Organising Secretary.

This move makes Rotimi Amaechi the second individual to enter the ADC presidential contest, following Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who had previously acquired the expression of interest and nomination forms. The development comes as the ADC has been navigating a period marked by significant internal leadership crises and multiple ongoing court cases.

These internal challenges have led to the departure of several prominent members, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who reportedly defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Despite these high-profile defections, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity, characterized the departures of Messrs. Obi and Kwankwaso as premeditated actions, suggesting they were unrelated to the party's internal disputes. Nevertheless, in the face of these continuous disputes and pending legal battles, David Mark, the ADC National Chairman, has assured party members of the party's commitment to participate in the 2027 general elections.
