Pioneering Nigerian Designer Forges Path to Inclusive Tech
For Olufemi Ayandokun, a senior product designer at XchangeBox, design transcends mere aesthetics, serving a profound purpose rooted in digital inclusivity. His philosophy, shaped by experiences with Nigeria's informal traders, dictates that digital products must cater to everyone, not just the technologically adept. Ayandokun advocates for a comprehensive approach where intuitive interfaces, appropriate color schemes, and legible fonts align with user needs, ultimately ensuring accessibility for all.
Ayandokun's journey into product design was not linear. Initially studying civil engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, a path chosen by his parents, he discovered a deep fascination with graphic design through personal exploration. This curiosity blossomed into a passion, leading him to pursue a master’s in marketing communications. This realization served as his gateway into product design, a field he formally entered in 2021 by joining Moni, a financial institution focusing on POS businesses. Today, he continues his impactful work as a senior product designer at XchangeBox.
A pivotal experience at Moni ignited Ayandokun's commitment to inclusive design. Working on a product aimed at digitizing
