Pep Guardiola's Man City Farewell: Jordan Leads Star-Studded Tributes for Domestic Double Hero!
Pep Guardiola, the esteemed manager of Manchester City, recently bid an emotional farewell to the club after a remarkable decade at its helm. Guardiola, 55, announced his decision to step down last week, having led Manchester City to an astonishing 20 trophies during his tenure. The farewell celebrations included a grand party held at the Co-Op Live arena, which welcomed an impressive 19,000 supporters, and followed an open-top bus parade that celebrated the club's Carabao and FA Cup triumphs.
The send-off was headlined by an array of star names paying heartfelt tribute to Guardiola. Basketball icon Michael Jordan, widely regarded as one of the NBA’s all-time greats, delivered a surprise video message played on a giant screen. "I just wanted to congratulate you on an incredible career," said the Chicago Bulls legend, adding well-wishes for Guardiola's retirement: "Enjoy your retirement. Good luck on the links and keep them straight. Congratulations." Former City captain and current Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was also among the notable guests present at the arena, underscoring the deep respect Guardiola commanded.
British golfer Tommy Fleetwood also shared a video message, expressing his admiration: "You deserve whatever comes next. It is an honour to call you a friend. Congratulations on being amazing." Veteran football manager Neil Warnock, who has surprisingly developed a close relationship with Guardiola in recent years, conveyed his disbelief and high regard: "I can’t quite believe you are leaving. I have seen off many managers, but you are the best of the bunch. The best manager I have ever witnessed."
The festivities saw club legends such as former captain Fernandinho, ex-sporting director and longtime Guardiola ally Txiki Begiristain, and goalkeeper Éderson, help present all 20 trophies won under Guardiola's leadership. Guardiola's final match in charge was a 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa, a game that saw the Spaniard visibly emotional. Earlier on the day of the party, thousands of City fans had gathered in the streets of Manchester to offer a heartfelt farewell to their departing manager, demonstrating the strong connection forged over his successful tenure. Guardiola delivered his closing remarks as City boss during a conversation with Oasis' Noel Gallagher, thanking the fans and all involved for their unwavering support. He expressed profound gratitude, stating, "Always, for the rest of my life, I will have you in my heart."
