Panic at Asda: Supermarket Recalls Popular Side Dish Amid Food Poisoning Fears!

Two major UK supermarkets, Asda and Tesco, have issued urgent recall warnings over potential health risks, underscoring the crucial role of accurate labelling and the oversight of the Food Standards Agency in protecting consumers.
Asda recalled its own-brand 10 Mini Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Dip after an incorrect use-by date was printed on the packaging. Affected 220g packs were mistakenly labelled December 29 instead of the correct November 29, rendering them unsafe to eat beyond the real expiry date. The FSA warned that consuming the product after its true date could lead to food poisoning, and customers are urged not to eat the item but to return it to any Asda store for a refund, no receipt necessary.
The FSA also stressed the importance of understanding the difference between ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates. A use-by date directly concerns food safety, meaning food should not be consumed after that date regardless of appearance or smell. This is especially important for perishable foods such as meat products and ready-to-eat salads. Proper storage is equally important, with items often required to be kept at 5°C or below to remain safe.
In a separate incident, Tesco recalled its Celery, Fruit and Nut Salad (300g, use-by December 2, 2025) after discovering the undeclared presence of mustard, a serious allergen for many people. Undeclared mustard on the label poses a significant threat to anyone with an allergy, potentially triggering reactions ranging from mild swelling and hives to severe, life-threatening anaphylaxis. Tesco advised affected customers not to eat the product and to return it for a full refund. No other items were affected, the supermarket said in its recall notice.
