Osimhen's UCL Dominance: Galatasaray Star Smashes European Record
)
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen delivered a scintillating performance for Galatasaray, inspiring a commanding 3–1 victory over Bodo/Glimt and cementing his name in the club’s history books. The Nigerian striker’s stunning brace not only powered the Turkish giants to victory but also saw him become the first player in Galatasaray’s history to score in seven consecutive European fixtures, breaking the long-standing record previously held by Burak Yılmaz.
The UEFA Champions League encounter showcased Osimhen’s sharpness and composure from the opening whistle. Just three minutes in, he capitalized on a defensive lapse from the Norwegian side to slot home the opener. His constant pressure, movement, and lethal finishing continued to unsettle the Bodo/Glimt defence throughout the first half. After being twice denied by goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, Osimhen struck again in the 33rd minute seizing on a misplaced backpass from Fredrik André Bjørkan, rounding the keeper, and calmly firing in his second goal.
Galatasaray maintained dominance after the break, with Osimhen again instrumental. He dispossessed Haitam Aleesami to set up Yunus Akgün for the team’s third goal, sealing a decisive win. Although Andreas Helmersen pulled one back for Bodo/Glimt with a late header, it proved merely a consolation. The result extended Galatasaray’s extraordinary run 21 wins in 23 matches across all competitions while ending the Norwegian side’s five-game unbeaten streak in Europe.
In post-match comments carried by T24, Osimhen downplayed individual accolades, directing praise toward his teammates.
“It was a very important match. I want to congratulate my teammates,” he said. “I’m not breaking these records alone. We’ll continue to build on this momentum. I want to help the team with my goals and assists or even just by fighting for every ball.”
Osimhen also highlighted how this victory, following a crucial goal against Liverpool, strengthened Galatasaray’s position in their Champions League group.
The Turkish club’s media team celebrated his performance with exuberant posts on X (formerly Twitter), hailing him as “the best striker in the world right now.” One viral caption read, “Victor Osimhen’s finishing though 🤯. Hang it in the Louvre — but don’t let them steal it pls,” referencing a recent Paris art museum theft.
With his blistering form, Osimhen not only continues to elevate Galatasaray’s European campaign but also reaffirms his reputation as one of the most dominant African strikers in world football today.
