Opulent Packed Lunches by Foodie Dad Go Viral — Critics Call It ‘Too Much’

As the new school year approaches, parents worldwide embark on the annual quest for creative and appealing lunchbox ideas. While classic choices like fruit, sandwiches, and yogurt remain staples, one particular "stay-at-home-dad" has captivated the internet with his remarkably opulent packed lunches for his child. These high-end culinary creations, shared through viral TikTok videos, have sparked widespread discussion and left viewers completely divided.
The father in question, Tyler Yan, is a foodie renowned on TikTok for his mouth-watering recipes, which include intricate dishes like Japanese Sando with strawberries and refreshing smoothie bowls prepared for his wife. However, it's his daughter who truly receives the gourmet treatment for her school meals, elevating the concept of a packed lunch to an entirely new level.

One of Tyler's most viral videos showcased him preparing three glass jars filled with fresh caviar, meticulously served on ice to maintain its chill. This alleged lunch was accompanied by crackers, a generous portion of cream cheese, and smoked salmon. For dessert, the child was reportedly given fresh figs, a combination Tyler described as a "solid Wednesday move." Another clip revealed an equally lavish "Mediterranean-style box,"which featured octopus, herby lemon quinoa, a vibrant tomato cucumber salad, fresh figs, and marinated olives.
On yet another occasion, the daughter's lunchbox allegedly contained a fresh arugula salad topped with cheese, perfectly cooked steak, truffle fries, sautéed shiitake mushrooms, and sliced apples with peanut butter for a sweet finish. These meticulously prepared meals highlight Tyler's dedication and culinary skill.
Despite the evident love and care invested in these jaw-dropping lunches, social media users were far from unanimous in their reactions. Thousands of TikTok commenters expressed disbelief, many insisting that the child must be trading her gourmet food with other kids for more conventional items.

Comments ranged from humorous observations like, "That lunch costs more than my rent," referring to the caviar-rich box that garnered over 19 million views, to confident assertions such as, "And she swapped it with a friend for stringy cheese, a yoghurt and a cookie." Another popular sentiment was, "Meanwhile all she wanted was a Lunchable," with one user humorously adding, "bro just called me poor in so many ways."
However, not all feedback was critical. A few users, identifying as having grown up with similar upscale meals, defended Tyler, asserting that a child accustomed to such fare would indeed prefer it over simpler options like Lunchables or string cheese. The phenomenon of Tyler Yan'sluxury lunchboxes continues to fascinate and entertain, sparking a broader conversation about parenting, food preferences, and the role of social media in showcasing unconventional lifestyles.
