Okun Youths Ignite 2027 Race: Backing Tinubu and Ododo for Second Term

Okun youths have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for their respective second terms in office. This significant political declaration took place on Saturday at a rally orchestrated by the Okun Youth Alliance (OYA) Movement in Isanlu, located in the Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State. The event, aptly named the OYA 2027 Election Endorsement Rally, attracted youths from various parts of Okunland and was hosted at the 1,500-capacity GYB Civic Centre, underscoring the widespread participation.

Oladele John Nihi, the Convener of the OYA Movement, articulated the rationale behind the youths' endorsement of President Tinubu. He highlighted the administration's notable interventions within Kogi State, with a particular focus on the Okun axis. Nihi specifically pointed to advancements in infrastructure development and the strategic appointments of Kogi and Okun indigenes to prominent positions within the Federal Government as key motivators for the group's decision. Among the specific appointments mentioned were the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ajaokuta Steel Company. According to Nihi, these appointments signify an enhanced inclusion of Okun people in national governance under the Tinubu administration.

Furthermore, the OYA convener announced the group’s strong endorsement of Governor Ododo for a second term. This decision, Nihi explained, stems from the Governor's commendable performance and the various development initiatives he has spearheaded across the state. The youths expressed a particular interest in ensuring continuity in leadership, believing that sustained governance would allow ongoing programs and developmental projects to receive the necessary attention and successful completion.

Nihi also took the opportunity to galvanize Okun youths, urging them to maintain active engagement in both governance and political processes. He emphasized that young people should not confine their participation solely to elections but should extend their involvement to actively shaping policies and determining the developmental priorities that benefit their communities. The rally concluded with additional speeches and solidarity messages delivered by various youth leaders and stakeholders from across Okunland, reinforcing the collective support and commitment to the endorsed leaders.
