Adebutu's 2027 Election Bid Gains Momentum: PDP & Ogun Communities Rally Support

Residents across communities in the Obantoko area of Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State have made a resolute commitment to deliver the highest number of votes for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, and his running mate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This declaration of support was made during a community stakeholders’ meeting held in Obantoko, drawing hundreds of residents, party members, and community leaders from areas including American Junction, Asalu, Akete, Akinyele, Akepe Oluwa, and Kangudu.

The overwhelming support for Adebutu was significantly bolstered by the residents’ strong acceptance of Sowunmi-Kolapo. Described as someone who has chosen to live among ordinary citizens, a rarity among many politicians, her decision to reside within the community was cited as a "proof of sincerity and commitment to grassroots development." Party loyalists emphasized that their commitment was a direct expression of their appreciation for her presence and her philanthropic gestures, which have fostered a deep connection with the communities. A notable instance recalled was her personal provision of funds for a transformer repair, directing residents to refund their previously contributed monies.

The meeting, attended by PDP state leaders, ward executives, and the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency, Dele Olaleye, quickly transformed into a powerful endorsement ceremony for Adebutu’s governorship bid. Residents unanimously pledged their unwavering support for Adebutu and all other PDP candidates in the 2027 polls.

Ezekiel Adeleye, the Chairman of PDP, Obantoko Ward, articulated the community's sentiments, stating, "You are one of us, and we will vote for you. I don’t want us to miss this opportunity. You live with us here." He reiterated the collective resolve: "This is our collective struggle. We will rally people to vote for Hon. Ladi Adebutu and all other candidates of PDP in the 2027 general election."

The Deputy State Chairman of the PDP, Abiodun Ogunremi, representing State Chairman Abayomi Tella, reminded the gathering of Obantoko’s historical significance as a PDP stronghold, proudly stating, "We are called PDP communities for a reason and we must prove our love for PDP again next year." Ogunremi expressed confidence that Obantoko, which performed exceptionally well for the PDP in previous elections, boasting six polling booths, would repeat this feat in 2027. He further urged residents to resist any attempts by individuals from outside the community to impose candidates on them, stressing the importance of protecting their local heritage and leadership.

Party leaders also highlighted what they described as Adebutu’s remarkable achievements outside of government. It was noted that Adebutu has already distributed no fewer than 700 transformers to various communities across Ogun State, a testament to his commitment to public service even without holding office. The promise of ending poverty and ushering in "fullness of good governance" once Adebutu is elected governor was a key message, urging the populace to "reject the hardship by voting enmasse for all the PDP candidates."

Fasiu Bakenne, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, joined the call for residents to resist intimidation and vote decisively for all PDP candidates. Additionally, O. Kenny, the PDP House of Assembly candidate in 2023, reminded attendees of Adebutu’s promise to restore local government autonomy. He emphasized that greater autonomy would unlock significant resources and development for local communities, citing Odeda alone having an allocation between N300 million and N400 million, which would bring immense benefits if actualized.

In her address, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, welcomed with songs and chants, powerfully echoed Adebutu’s philanthropic efforts during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, noting his support came without access to public funds. She passionately appealed to residents to mobilize their families, friends, neighbours, co-workers, and all eligible voters. Sowunmi-Kolapo urged them to ensure massive votes, protect their ballots, and stand firm, assuring them of security provisions during the poll. She notably advised, "They may want to offer you money, the money is yours, take their money and vote for LADI," encapsulating the party’s campaign mantra, "Itura Tide" (relief has come), signifying an end to suffering.
