Dennis Miracles Aboagye Declares NPP Bid as Party Alleges EOCO Arrest
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, former communications director for Dr. Bawumia's 2024 campaign, has declared his bid for NPP's National Communications Director, aiming to lead the party's messaging for the 2028 elections. This political ambition is now overshadowed by allegations from the NPP that Aboagye was arrested by EOCO, prompting demands for his immediate release and accusations of politically motivated intimidation.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, former Communications Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's 2024 presidential campaign, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
His bid comes as the party intensifies internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election, with supporters arguing that his campaign experience and communications expertise position him to strengthen the party's messaging and public engagement.
Hours after announcing his candidacy, the NPP alleged that Aboagye was arrested by officers of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service.
In a statement, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua claimed Aboagye was picked up at the airport, taken into EOCO custody, and denied access to his lawyers and family, while his whereabouts remained undisclosed. However, EOCO had not issued an official statement, and the circumstances surrounding the alleged arrest had not been independently verified at the time.
The NPP described the alleged detention as politically motivated, accusing the government of using state institutions to intimidate opposition figures. The party demanded Aboagye's immediate release or, if there are legitimate grounds for prosecution, that he be formally charged and arraigned before a competent court in line with the Constitution.
It also insisted that he be granted unrestricted access to his legal team and family, while urging supporters to remain calm as the situation unfolds.
