Nottingham Forest Chaos: Sean Dyche Sacked as Third Coach This Season
Nottingham Forest's managerial landscape saw another significant shift following a disappointing 0-0 draw against bottom-club Wolves, a result that ultimately led to the sacking of head coach Sean Dyche. The stalemate, despite Forest registering 35 shots, was met with boos from fans at the City Ground, and moved the club just three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis, known for his 'trigger-happy' approach, was present at the game and was reportedly considering his third managerial change of the season. Sean Dyche, speaking prior to the official announcement, adopted a 'realist' stance regarding his future, acknowledging that his fate was in the hands of the owner. He expressed his dedication to the club and his belief that Marinakis had been fair to him throughout his tenure, while also recognizing the ever-increasing demand and expectation in modern football.
On Wednesday, Nottingham Forest Football Club confirmed that Sean Dyche had been relieved of his duties as head coach. A club statement extended thanks to Dyche and his staff for their efforts and wished them well for the future, declining further comment. This decision places Forest, currently in 17th position in the Premier League, back on the hunt for a new manager.
Dyche's departure marks the third managerial change for Forest this season. He had taken over on October 21, succeeding Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou. Nuno, who guided Forest to a seventh-place finish last season and European football, was sacked in September after a public dispute with Marinakis despite signing a new three-year deal in June 2025 (sic). Former Tottenham boss Postecoglou's tenure was even shorter, lasting only 40 days before he was dismissed after a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Dyche, who previously had ties to Nottingham as a trainee, had initially shown promise. His first game in charge saw a victory against Porto, followed by a significant 3-0 win against Premier League champions Liverpool a month later. However, the team's form declined, with the 0-0 draw against Wolves leaving Forest with just two wins from their last 10 Premier League matches, a run that also included an FA Cup exit to Championship side Wrexham.
Meanwhile, Wolves' boss Rob Edwards acknowledged his team 'didn't play great' but praised their 'fighting qualities and battling qualities' to secure the point, which moved them closer to Derby's record low Premier League total of 11 points, now standing at nine.
