Nigeria's Star-Studded Talent Accelerator Takes Center Stage for Economic Growth!

Nigeria has officially inaugurated the Nigeria Talent Accelerator Network (NTAN), a transformative initiative designed to bolster the nation’s workforce capabilities, address crucial productivity gaps, accelerate digital transformation, and proactively prepare its labor force for the evolving demands of the future of work. This significant undertaking is an integral part of the World Economic Forum’s broader Reskilling Revolution in Nigeria, reflecting a concerted effort to invest in human capital development.
The Nigeria Talent Accelerator Network is co-chaired by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Federal Ministry of Education. Its operational coordination is managed by the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP), signifying Nigeria's formal entry into the prestigious Global Accelerators Network. The core objective of this platform is to mobilize multi-stakeholder partnerships, fostering a collective approach to reshape global talent development and empower local talent to effectively navigate emerging economic realities.
Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, lauded the launch as a “decisive step towards building a globally competitive workforce that can power Nigeria’s next phase of industrialisation and innovation.” She further emphasized that NTAN represents “a turning point in connecting policy, industry, and education,” creating a unified platform dedicated to driving employability, productivity, and inclusive economic growth across the nation.
Concurrently, Dr. Maruf Alausa, the Honourable Minister of Education, reaffirmed his Ministry’s unwavering dedication to harmonizing education and vocational training with the dynamic needs of the labor market. His remarks underscored the commitment to equipping Nigerian youth with future-ready skills, thereby enhancing their global competitiveness. Teju Abisoye, the National Coordinator of NATEP, highlighted that the Accelerator will serve as a crucial hub for collaboration among various entities, including government agencies, private sector leaders, academic institutions, and civil society. This collaborative ecosystem aims to co-create scalable solutions for reskilling and upskilling the Nigerian workforce, while simultaneously aligning national education and employment policies with the rigorous demands of the modern global economy.
“Through this collaboration, Nigeria is not only preparing for the future of work but also helping to define it,” stated Ms. Abisoye. She also mentioned the development of a coordinated Action Plan specifically designed to address existing talent gaps and capitalize on the immense opportunities available for talent export. The initiative will strategically prioritize the development of essential digital and transferable skills, catering to the needs of rapidly emerging sectors such as technology, business process outsourcing (BPO), and green industries.
Furthermore, NTAN is committed to mobilizing robust public-private partnerships to secure funding and scale reskilling programs effectively. This will facilitate the redeployment of the workforce into high-demand roles and involve the establishment of sophisticated data-driven systems capable of anticipating future skills needs, thereby informing responsive policymaking. Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, expressed her welcome for the launch, noting the Forum’s pleasure in collaborating with Nigeria to advance its skills development and workforce readiness. She affirmed that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to empowering individuals with the capabilities required to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy, positioning Nigeria to meet both domestic workforce needs and contribute talent and innovation globally.
Nigeria’s active participation in this global initiative unequivocally underscores its profound commitment to strengthening human capital development, fostering digital inclusion, and strategically positioning the nation as a competitive talent hub not just for Africa, but for the entire world. The Accelerator seamlessly complements ongoing national reforms aimed at diversifying the economy, deepening innovation capacity, and driving broad-based prosperity across Nigeria.
The World Economic Forum’s Reskilling Revolution is an ambitious global initiative dedicated to providing improved education, skills, and economic opportunities to one billion people by the year 2030. It brings together a powerful consortium of global businesses, governments, and learning institutions to catalyze national transformation through various programs, including Skills and Education Accelerators and the Reskilling Revolution Champions and Commitments.
The National Talent Export Programme (NATEP) was specifically established to elevate Nigeria’s standing as a premier global hub for service exports, talent sourcing, and talent exports. This initiative aligns directly with President Tinubu’s strategic agenda for job creation, with an ambitious target of generating 1 million in-demand jobs across Nigeria and globally within a five-year timeframe. Beyond mere job creation, NATEP is envisioned as a comprehensive initiative designed to inject substantial foreign exchange into the Nigerian economy through remittances, cultivate a significant source of tax income for state governments, and vigorously promote innovation and sustainable growth through the expansion of trade in services.
