NCC Welcomes New Public Affairs Director: Nnamdi Nwobike Takes the Helm!

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially announced the appointment of Nnamdi Nwobike as its new Director Public Affairs. This significant leadership change follows the retirement of Tony Ojobo, who concluded a commendable 18-year career with the commission on age grounds. Ojobo, reflecting on his journey, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Dr. JUWAH, Prof. Danbatta, his colleagues, stakeholders, and followers for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.
Nnamdi Nwobike steps into this pivotal role bringing a wealth of experience and a distinguished track record within the NCC. Prior to his current appointment, he served as the commission's Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy. In this capacity, Nwobike's leadership was instrumental in providing the necessary impetus for several key projects undertaken by the NCC, demonstrating his strategic foresight and administrative capabilities.
As the newly appointed Director of Public Affairs, Nwobike will be tasked with critical responsibilities, primarily focusing on developing and executing comprehensive strategies designed to cultivate and maintain a positive public image for the commission. This role is crucial in fostering trust and transparency between the NCC and the Nigerian populace, as well as its various stakeholders.
Nwobike's professional background is notably diverse and extensive, underscoring his suitability for the role. He is recognized as a multi-task and startup expert, possessing vast experience that spans across economic consultancies, marketing, and customer relationship management. His early career included a consulting role in 1985 with Multiver Systems Limited, a firm responsible for establishing the National Planning Commission. Furthermore, he gained valuable experience in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry, having worked with prominent entities such as AG Leventis Group, Seven-Up Bottling Co, and Nigerian Breweries Plc.
His journey with the Nigerian Communications Commission commenced in 2001, where he made an immediate impact by establishing and heading the Consumer Affairs Bureau. During his leadership of this unit, Nwobike was instrumental in creating essential infrastructure for Consumer Education and Protection. This initiative notably culminated in the successful establishment of the Telecoms Consumer Parliament, a vital platform for addressing consumer concerns and promoting their rights. His achievements also extend to the international arena, as he was adopted by the Conference of Regulators as the Executive Secretary of the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA) in 2007, a position to which he was re-elected for another three-year term in 2010. WATRA, as an organization, comprises independent National Regulatory Authorities and departments responsible for the regulation of Telecommunications services, established by governments of member states within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region and Mauritania.
Nnamdi Nwobike’s comprehensive experience in strategic planning, consumer advocacy, and international telecommunications regulation positions him to effectively champion the NCC's public engagement efforts, building on the legacy of his predecessor and steering the commission's public relations into a new era.
