The NBA is conducting an extensive investigation into the LA Clippers over allegations of salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard and a $28 million endorsement agreement signed in 2022. The probe seeks to determine whether Leonard received improper compensation through a company that also had a lucrative sponsorship arrangement with the Clippers.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has described the case as complex, citing bankruptcy proceedings and difficulties obtaining witness cooperation. The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and the Clippers have strongly denied any wrongdoing and have indicated they are prepared to challenge any disciplinary action through arbitration.
If no settlement is reached, the dispute could proceed to an independent arbitrator, potentially extending the investigation into 2027.
