Nasarawa Governor Unleashes Cabinet Purge, Sacks Six Commissioners
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has reshuffled his cabinet, relieving six commissioners to inject fresh ideas and strengthen governance. The move, announced by SSG Labaran Magaji, aims to reposition the administration for improved service delivery, with the state also planning to boost revenue through its growing lithium sector.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has initiated a significant cabinet reshuffle, relieving six commissioners of their appointments. This strategic decision, aimed at strengthening governance and injecting fresh ideas into his administration, was formally announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Labaran Magaji, during a briefing to journalists following the State Executive Council meeting held in Lafia.
The commissioners affected by this reshuffle were those heading the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, as well as Security and Sundry Matters. Magaji clarified that the commissioners were asked to step aside to facilitate the introduction of new perspectives and to reposition the government for improved service delivery during the remaining period of the administration's tenure.
Importantly, the SSG emphasized that this action should not be perceived as a reflection of poor performance from the departing officials. He explicitly stated that the government acknowledges the dedication, efficiency, and valuable contributions made by the affected commissioners during their service. The reshuffle is primarily intended to 'rejig' the administrative system, infuse fresh energy into governance, and ensure that the administration can fully deliver on its mandate before its term concludes.
Magaji further indicated that the former commissioners would retain their association with the government and could potentially be considered for other responsibilities in the future. The names of their replacements, who will take over the leadership of these crucial ministries, are expected to be announced through appropriate official channels in due course.
In addition to the cabinet changes, the Executive Council meeting also included discussions on crucial measures to boost Nasarawa State’s internally generated revenue (IGR). A key focus of these discussions was leveraging investments within the state's burgeoning lithium sector. This strategic direction comes on the heels of the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa, an event attended by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighting the sector's national importance.
