Music Queens Unite! Dolly Parton's Star-Studded 80th Birthday Anthem

Iconic country music superstar Dolly Parton is celebrating her 80th birthday on January 19 with a special early release: a fresh rendition of her classic 1977 hit, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” This updated version features an all-star lineup of collaborators, including Lainey Wilson, Reba McEntire, Queen Latifah, and Miley Cyrus, Parton’s goddaughter.

The single and accompanying music video enhance the song’s uplifting message, featuring David Foster on piano and The Christ Church Choir providing backing vocals. Written by Parton herself and produced by Parton and Kent Wells, the track was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge. The original recording appeared on Parton’s 1977 album, New Harvest…First Gathering, reaching No. 11 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart.

Reflecting on the enduring message, Parton stated, “I wrote ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning’ during a season when I was searching for hope, and fifty years later that message still feels just as true.” She added, “As I celebrate my 80th birthday, this new version is my way of using what I’ve been blessed with to shine a little light forward, especially by sharing it with some truly incredible women.”

The project also carries a significant charitable component, with all net proceeds benefiting Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital in Nashville, supporting pediatric cancer research.

Parton has a rich history of collaboration with the featured artists:

  • With Miley Cyrus, she worked on “Rainbowland” and a rendition of Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball.”

  • With Lainey Wilson, she contributed to a version of “Mama He’s Crazy” for a Judds tribute record.

  • With Reba McEntire, she performed “Does He Love You”.

  • With Queen Latifah, she starred in the 2012 film Joyful Noise, portraying choir directors.

Beyond music, Parton continues to expand her portfolio. Her Songteller Hotel is under development in Nashville, and her multimedia symphonic experience, ‘Threads: My Songs in Symphony,’ will tour more US cities this year. She also recently released Star of the Show: My Life on Stage, co-authored with Billboard journalist Tom Roland.
