Music Giants Recognized: Tame Impala and Genesis Owusu Dominate 2026 ARIA Nominations

The Australian music industry is buzzing with excitement as the 40th annual ARIA Awards approach, celebrating four decades of remarkable Australian artistry. Leading the charge for the 2026 ceremony, Tame Impala and Genesis Owusu each secured an impressive eight nominations, closely followed by Ecca Vandal with seven.

Kevin Parker's Tame Impala, already a recipient of 13 career ARIA Awards, continues to make waves with his fifth studio album, Deadbeat, a 2025 release. This psychedelic pop act earned nominations for Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Release, and Best Dance/Electronic Release, bolstered by the global success of his hit single “Dracula,” which spent 18 weeks in the national top 10, peaking at No. 4.

Genre-defying artist Genesis Owusu, known for his wizard's touch, quickly amassed seven previous ARIAs and adds eight more nominations to his list this year. Following the release of his third album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, Owusu is nominated for Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Independent Release, among others.

Ecca Vandal is poised for a significant night with seven nominations for her sophomore album, Looking For People To Unfollow. Other artists with notable recognition include Baker Boy, BOY SODA, G Flip, Miss Kaninna, and Ninajirachi, each receiving five nominations. Electronic music star Dom Dolla, who is set to make history as the first homegrown DJ to play Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, garnered four nominations, as did DMA’S and Troye Sivan. Iconic Australian artists such as Kylie Minogue, Paul Kelly, Keith Urban, Vika & Linda, and Hilltop Hoods also feature prominently in the ARIAs shortlist.

ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd expressed immense enthusiasm for the nominees, stating, “We could not be more thrilled with this list of nominees to celebrate 40 years of Australian music and incredible human artistry. These records and these amazing artists represent the culmination of 40 years of Australian success in making great music that captures our unique voice and takes it global.”

Further enhancing fan engagement, the four publicly-voted ARIA categories will once again be integrated into Spotify, allowing fans to cast daily votes directly within the app. Public voting for Best Australian Live Act, Song of the Year, Best Video, and Most Popular International Artist is open from September 24 to November 9 across Spotify and the official ARIA website. Mikaela Lancaster, Spotify AUNZ managing director, emphasized the platform's commitment: “From discovery to global amplification, Spotify is committed to ensuring Australian artists aren’t just celebrated at home, but reach audiences around the world.”

The 2026 ARIA Awards, the Australian recorded music industry’s flagship awards ceremony, will be presented on Wednesday, November 18, at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. ARIA’s Herd also highlighted the significance of the awards in the context of ongoing challenges: “As we continue to fight against the relentless assault on our copyright laws by foreign AI companies, this year’s ARIA Awards are a powerful moment to recognize the enduring power of music to give meaning to the human experience, connect Australians through our own stories and inspire us to feel truly alive.”

The 2026 ARIA Awards are proudly supported by Destination NSW, in partnership with Spotify. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Paramount+ and 10, with performances and key moments also available on the @ARIA.official YouTube channel.

The comprehensive list of nominations spans a diverse array of categories, including Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Group, Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist presented by Spotify, and various genre-specific awards such as Pop, Dance/Electronic, Hip Hop/Rap, Soul/R&B, Independent, Rock, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Country, Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, Blues & Roots, and Children’s Album. Additionally, awards will be presented for Best Music Festival, Best Cover Art, Engineer – Best Engineered Release, Producer – Best Produced Release, as well as Fine Arts categories like Best Classical Album, Best Jazz Album, Best Original Soundtrack or Musical Theatre Cast Album, and Best World Music Album. The ceremony also recognizes creative marketing through the Our Soundtrack Our Ads category for Best Use of an Australian Recording in an Advertisement.
