Morrissey Halts California Tour Due to Medication Woes

Morrissey has initiated his 2026 touring schedule with immediate cancellations, calling off two California concerts slated for early January. The renowned singer was scheduled to perform on Friday, January 3, at Agua Caliente Casinos in Rancho Mirage, California. However, the venue's website now lists this performance as postponed indefinitely, a change reflected on the very day of the scheduled event. The official reason provided by the venue for this cancellation was "an adverse reaction to a prescription medication," though no further specific medical information was disclosed.
Following closely, a second scheduled performance, set for Tuesday, January 6, at the San Diego Civic Theatre, has also been canceled. The San Diego venue similarly confirmed the cancellation on its official website, and as of the time of publication, no rescheduled date has been announced for this event. For both California shows, ticket holders have been advised by the respective venues to contact their original points of purchase to inquire about refunds or exchange options.
These recent developments mark Morrissey's inaugural confirmed concert cancellations of 2026, extending a notable and persistent pattern of disrupted live dates that have affected his tours in recent years. Numerous past tours have faced postponements or outright cancellations, often attributed to health-related issues, scheduling conflicts, or problems associated with venues.
This trend of cancellations includes several instances from the previous year. In September, Morrissey canceled a concert in Ottawa, citing safety concerns stemming from a threat that was posted on Bluesky. The following month, a planned performance in Turkey was called off amidst significant public backlash related to statements Morrissey had made in support of Israel. In November, he canceled his entire South American tour, attributing the decision to "extreme exhaustion." Furthermore, in December, he abruptly canceled what was intended to be his first-ever concert appearance in the Dominican Republic.
As a consequence of this ongoing pattern, upcoming dates on Morrissey's concert calendar have frequently remained subject to change right up until shortly before showtime. As of now, Morrissey's next scheduled appearance is still set for January 10 at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas. This particular San Antonio show had itself been previously rescheduled from an earlier date of May 8. Notably, Morrissey has not performed in San Antonio in over 15 years, with planned appearances there in both 2016 and 2017 having been rescheduled before ultimately being canceled. Beyond the brief venue statements, no additional details have been provided in connection with the January 2026 cancellations, and Morrissey himself has not yet publicly commented on the Rancho Mirage or San Diego cancellations.
