Prime Video Orders 'Fourth Wing' Series With Michael B. Jordan Producing
Prime Video has officially greenlit a series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling “Empyrean” novels, starting with “Fourth Wing.”
This highly anticipated romantasy phenomenon is moving forward with significant names attached, including Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society producing the project.
The decision comes as Prime Video seeks to fill a fantasy-shaped gap in its programming lineup.
The creative team bringing “Fourth Wing” to the screen includes Meredith Averill, who will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Lisa Joy is set to direct the first episode and also executive produce.
Author Rebecca Yarros will be involved as an executive producer, alongside Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo. While excitement builds among fans, no specific casting details or a release date have been announced yet, though fan-casting discussions have been ongoing for years.
The series will follow Violet Sorrengail, a young woman who initially expected a life dedicated to books as a scribe. However, her powerful mother, a commanding general, forces her to enroll in Basgiath War College.
This brutal and deadly institution trains candidates to become dragon riders, who serve as the elite protectors of Navarre.
Violet, being smaller and physically more fragile than many of her peers, becomes an immediate target in a world where weakness can be fatal. Her challenges are further compounded by the antagonistic presence of Xaden Riorson, a key figure at the college.
Michael B. Jordan has emphasized his understanding of the immense fan protectiveness surrounding the books. He stated earlier that the team is dedicated to delivering an exciting show that will meet fan expectations while also incorporating surprising elements.
Jordan acknowledged the beloved nature of the franchise, assuring readers that the team is diligently working in the lab, developing the series in its early stages with a keen awareness of the strong fan investment.
Furthermore, Jordan has expressed the importance of creating an adaptation that feels authentic to the source material without becoming “cheesy.”
He previously suggested that casting should avoid “obvious choices,” instead opting for a blend of newer faces and established names. This approach aims to allow viewers to fully immerse themselves and fall in love with the characters without the preconceived notions often associated with overly familiar actors.
