Meghan Markle's Hollywood Comeback Sparks Royal Rift With Prince Harry

Recent events within the Royal Family suggest escalating tensions, with a royal expert pointing to a 'growing divide' between Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry. This perceived rift comes amidst Meghan's announcement of a Hollywood comeback and Prince Harry's high-profile foreign trip, which reportedly risked overshadowing his brother, Prince William.
Last week, Prince Harry undertook a visit to Canada to mark "Remembrancetide," a period traditionally observed from November 1 to 11. During this time, he was seen posing with soldiers. Concurrently, Prince William was representing the King at the COP30 climate change summit in Brazil and accepting his Earthshot Prize. Despite suggestions of a deliberate clash, Harry's team clarified that the Toronto events were planned "nearly a year ago" and the Duke "can't choose to move" the dates associated with Remembrancetide.
Adding another layer to the narrative, Meghan captured headlines by revealing her return to acting in a major Hollywood movie. The film, titled "Close Personal Friends," is set to feature Emily In Paris star Lily Collins and Marvel superhero Brie Larson alongside the Duchess. Insiders have been tight-lipped about the specifics of Meghan's role, but reports indicate she will be playing herself, marking her return to the screen after an eight-year hiatus from acting, a career for which she was widely known through her role in 'Suits' before becoming a royal.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam commented that these concurrent events not only underscore the persistent feud between the royals and the Sussexes but also highlight a deepening divergence in priorities between Meghan and Harry. Fitzwilliam suggests Meghan's focus is now firmly set on Hollywood and commercial success, while Harry retains a strong connection to his homeland.
Fitzwilliam stated, "Meghan’s decision to appear as herself in a Hollywood comedy film definitely emphasises her shift towards the US. But Harry still feels very deeply about his homeland and would like to spend more time in the UK. The same cannot be said for Meghan, so there’s a clear divergence in opinions there." He also noted the couple's existing Netflix projects, implying that Meghan's Hollywood venture might be just the beginning.
Further emphasizing Harry's attachment to the UK, he penned an essay titled "The Bond, The Banter, The Bravery: What It Means To Be British" during his Canadian trip. In it, he expressed pride in serving alongside men and women from across the UK and described aspects like "the banter of the mess, the clubhouse, the pub, the stands" as defining elements of British identity, adding, "I love it." Richard Fitzwilliam views this essay as a clear indicator of how deeply "self-exiled Harry misses the UK."
The expert added that Harry would likely wish to see more of his father, especially with King Charles' birthday approaching, which might trigger feelings of regret for the Duke. Conversely, Meghan is concentrated on her commercial ventures, aiming to maintain her brand's integrity amidst what Fitzwilliam described as "levels of toxicity" that could potentially cause damage.
Meghan was reportedly seen on the set of her new blockbuster last week, with a source telling People magazine that she appeared "very relaxed and happy," introducing herself to everyone as "very sweet and down to earth." This further reinforces the narrative of her renewed focus on her career in the United States.
