Megan Moroney's 'Cloud 9' Album Ascends to No. 1, Making History on Billboard Charts!

In a landmark moment for country music, Megan Moroney’s album Cloud 9 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while Ella Langley’s single Choosin’ Texas returned to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the same week.

The March 7 charts mark the first time women who mainly record country music have topped both the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 at the same time, in a milestone which has not be seen since the charts began in the 1950s.

Moroney couldn’t hide her excitement, saying, “Not to be cliche but I’m on cloud 9!” She thanked her fans for turning her dream into reality.

Cloud 9 racked up 147,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending February 26, marking the biggest week for a female country artist in nearly two years.

This is Moroney’s third studio album, following Lucky (2023, No. 38) and Am I Okay? (2024, No. 9). Cloud 9 features collaborations with Kacey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran.

Of its debut numbers, 78,000 were album sales, and 69,000 were streaming-equivalent units, totaling over 71 million on-demand streams.

Boosted by five vinyl variants, three CD editions, and four deluxe boxed sets, the album hit streaming and sales milestones alike.

Moroney is now gearing up for THE CLOUD 9 TOUR, an arena tour spanning the U.S., Canada, and Europe from May through October.

Meanwhile, Ella Langley’s Choosin’ Texas reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100, marking her first-ever chart-topping single.

The track was co-written and co-produced with Miranda Lambert, alongside Luke Dick, Joybeth Taylor, and Ben West. This single previews Langley’s upcoming album, Dandelion, set for release on April 10.

This simultaneous No. 1 achievement is unprecedented. Only four other instances exist where a country title ruled both the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 at the same time, and never before by two women.

Past instances of country titles topping both the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 include:

  • Beautifully Broken / A Bar Song (Tipsy) – Jelly Roll & Shaboozey (Oct 26, 2024)

  • F-1 Trillion / A Bar Song (Tipsy) – Post Malone & Shaboozey (Aug 31, 2024)

  • Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) / Last Night – Taylor Swift & Morgan Wallen (Jul 22, 2023)

  • Hotel California / Southern Nights – Eagles & Glen Campbell (Apr 30, 1977)

Both Cloud 9 and Choosin’ Texas are released under Sony Music Entertainment, making it a landmark week for the label.

The latest Billboard 200 chart also saw several notable entries:

  • DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS – Bad Bunny, No. 2 (85,000 units)

  • luck… or something – Hilary Duff, No. 3 (84,000 units)

  • Ca$ino – Baby Keem, No. 4 (72,000 units)

Other top 10 entries include Morgan Wallen, Don Toliver, Olivia Dean, J. Cole, Taylor Swift, and Mumford & Sons. The Billboard 200 ranks albums based on multi-metric consumption.

The mix of album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums has ensured that every album’s performance is measured fairly and accurately.

This week is a landmark for country music, proving that women are not only shaping the genre but also making history across all charts.

For Moroney and Langley, it’s a moment of triumph, and for fans, a moment to celebrate.
