Ghanian Police Smash Criminal Ring Stealing 100+ Tonnes of Vital ECG Cables!

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has made a significant breakthrough in tackling the theft of national infrastructure, recovering more than 100 tonnes of stolen service cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The cables were discovered at a company operating in Tema, leading to the arrest of 10 suspects.
Authorities say the operation exposes what appears to be a coordinated effort by criminal networks targeting vital public assets.
The raid took place on March 4, 2026, at around 3:30 pm, when the CID Headquarters Operations Unit, working in collaboration with officials from the Ministry of Energy, stormed the premises of Sentuo Company in the Kpone Industrial Area near Tema.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers arrived to find roughly 70 workers actively cutting and stripping ECG service cables.
The exposed metal from the cables was being compressed into blocks, which investigators suspect were prepared for illegal export.
Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the CID, revealed details of the operation during a press briefing on Monday, March 9, 2026.
She stressed that the scale of the recovered materials indicates a sustained and organized operation targeting ECG infrastructure across multiple locations.
According to COP Donkor, the theft and illegal export of ECG cables have had serious consequences for electricity supply across communities, businesses, and public institutions.
She noted that such criminal activity undermines national development and places additional strain on efforts to maintain reliable power distribution throughout the country.
The suspects arrested include two Ghanaian nationals, Samuel Ekpe and Priscilla Padu, along with eight Chinese nationals believed to hold managerial roles within the company.
Police have placed a 24-hour guard on the premises to prevent the removal of any remaining materials while investigations continue.
Authorities have also urged members of the public to report information related to the theft of public infrastructure by contacting their nearest police station or dialing the police emergency line on 191.
