Binance Drops $100 Million Stablecoin Amid Delisting Shake-Up

Binance, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has announced its decision to remove Pax Dollar (USDP) from its platform following a recent periodic review. The stablecoin reportedly failed to meet the exchange's specified requirements, leading to a comprehensive delisting process that will impact various trading pairs and services.

According to Binance's official communication, all USDP spot trading pairs are scheduled to cease operations on September 24, 2026, at 03:00 UTC. Any existing spot orders for USDP will be automatically canceled once trading activities conclude. This decision is particularly noteworthy given that USDP, a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Paxos, has traditionally been recognized as a regulated and established alternative within the broader stablecoin ecosystem.

Binance refrained from pinpointing a singular infraction that led to this ruling. Instead, the exchange reiterated the multifaceted factors it evaluates during its listing review processes. These considerations typically include, but are not limited to, trading volume and liquidity, the level of development activity associated with the asset, network security, compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, the transparency of the project, its tokenomics, and overall community sentiment.

The scope of the delisting extends beyond just the spot market. Binance Margin is set to delist USDP on September 11, at 06:00 UTC, while Binance Buy and Sell Crypto services will cease supporting the asset a few hours prior to that date. For users who hold USDP in Simple Earn, support for the asset will expire on September 17. Following this, any remaining positions will be automatically redeemed and subsequently transferred to the users' respective Spot Accounts.

Critical deadlines have also been established for deposits and withdrawals of USDP. Deposits of USDP will no longer be credited to user accounts after September 25, at 03:00 UTC. However, standard withdrawals for USDP will remain accessible for a more extended period, up until November 24, at 03:00 UTC.

Concerning users' remaining USDP balances, Binance indicated that after November 25, these holdings might eventually be converted into other stablecoins. However, the exchange explicitly clarified that such a conversion is not guaranteed. In scenarios where an automatic conversion is not feasible, withdrawals may still be possible, contingent upon prevailing network conditions and operational feasibility.

It is important to emphasize that this delisting action by Binance does not imply that Paxos has ceased its support for the stablecoin or that USDP has lost its fundamental dollar backing. Rather, it reflects Binance's autonomous decision to discontinue its support for USDP in accordance with its internal listing and review guidelines. Nevertheless, the loss of distribution on a major platform like Binance is a significant development for USDP. Stablecoins inherently rely on robust liquidity, widespread exchange integrations, and convenient conversion pathways to maintain their utility and adoption. The removal of USDP from one of the industry's largest trading platforms will undoubtedly diminish its accessibility and could potentially contribute to a further consolidation of stablecoin activity around more dominant alternatives such as USDT and USDC.
