Madame Tussauds London's Quirky New Exhibit: A Wax Sausage Roll Joins the Stars

Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, a renowned attraction known for bringing fans closer to their favorite celebrities through lifelike wax figures, has recently introduced a unique addition to its London collection: a Greggs sausage roll. This marks a significant departure from the museum's typical celebrity representations, as it is the very first food item to be featured in wax. The savory snack is on display for a limited time, specifically in celebration of National Sausage Roll Day, observed on June 5.
The choice of a Greggs sausage roll is particularly fitting, given its iconic status within British culture and cuisine. Greggs, a prominent British bakery chain, enjoys immense popularity across the United Kingdom, with a recent survey indicating that 70 percent of UK respondents hold a favorable opinion of the brand. This cultural significance places the sausage roll alongside other British icons in the museum's Culture Capital section, where visitors can also find figures of Sir David Attenborough and the acclaimed English-Ghanaian artist Stormzy.
The creation of this wax pastry followed the same rigorous and detailed process typically reserved for human figures. Madame Tussauds’ studio artists meticulously studied dozens of actual Greggs sausage rolls, paying close attention to every detail to accurately capture their proper colors, distinctive flakiness, and precise shape. This traditional process involved careful measuring, clay molding, and intricate hand-painting, ensuring an authentic and realistic recreation of the beloved snack.
Visitors planning to see this unusual culinary tribute can find the Greggs sausage roll at Madame Tussauds in London from June 5, 2025, and it will remain on display until the end of the month.
