Lookman's Fiery Promise: 'We'll Have Power' Ahead of UCL Semis Clash with Arsenal!

Super Eagles and Atletico Madrid striker Ademola Lookman has expressed strong confidence ahead of his team's highly anticipated UEFA Champions League semi-final encounter against Arsenal. The 28-year-old forward, a key figure for Atletico Madrid, has recently recovered from a minor injury that caused him to miss previous games against Elche and Athletic Club. He has now been medically cleared to feature in the crucial clash against Mikel Arteta's Arsenal at the Metropolitano, a significant boost for the Spanish side.
Atletico Madrid's journey to the semi-finals in the 2025/2026 season has been marked by impressive victories, having overcome strong opponents like Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona in earlier stages. With the first leg being played at home, Diego Simeone's men are keen to leverage their home advantage to secure a commanding result before heading to the Emirates Stadium for the return leg next week.
Lookman, who made his move to Spain during the winter transfer window, openly admitted that the standard of play and the environment in Madrid surpass anything he has experienced before. He lauded Los Rojiblancos as one of the elite teams globally, highlighting the quality of its players, the team's cohesion, and the passionate support of the fans. "Atlético is one of the best clubs in the world, with top players, the team is amazing, the fans are also," the one-time UEFA Europa League winner stated, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. "It’s a pleasure to play here, what’s happening to us is being fantastic, I want to help the team."
Born in London, Lookman initially represented England at the U-20 level before choosing to play for Nigeria, where he was named the 2024 CAF Player of the Year. His roots in the English capital add an emotional dimension to the upcoming match against Arsenal. Despite the personal significance, Lookman remains focused on victory, firmly believing that Atletico, bolstered by the fervent crowd at the Metropolitano, can outmaneuver Mikel Arteta's squad. He acknowledged Arsenal as a "tough opponent" and a "top team," emphasizing that at the Champions League semi-final stage, there are no easy rivals. "It will be a very tough match," he affirmed, adding, "As long as we have the fans with us, we'll have a special power. Having our fans behind us is special, the atmosphere at home, the energy it gives us." He reminisced about the powerful support from fans outside their hotel before the Barcelona game, expressing hope for immense strength from the home crowd in the first leg.
Meanwhile, Arsenal arrives in Spain in a challenging period, described as "wounded Lions." The Gunners have recently faced setbacks, having been eliminated from both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup within a month, and their lead in the English Premier League has significantly narrowed due to Manchester City's resurgence. For Arsenal to salvage their season with silverware, they face the daunting task of scoring multiple goals against an Atletico Madrid defence that, despite its reputation, has yet to keep a clean sheet in the current UEFA Champions League campaign. Adding to their woes, Arsenal will be without Kai Havertz, who is sidelined until next month due to injury, and Bukayo Saka's participation is doubtful as he is still recovering from an injury.
In contrast, Atletico Madrid has received a crucial boost with Lookman's timely return to fitness. However, it is considered highly unlikely that the Nigerian international will start the match, given that he has not yet completed a full 90 minutes on the pitch since joining the 2014 La Liga winners.
