Listeria Alert: USDA Recalls 14,000 Pounds of Chicken Across 7 States

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a Class I recall—the highest risk level—on nearly 14,000 pounds of fully cooked chicken breast after testing positive for Listeria monocytogenes, a potentially severe foodborne pathogen.

The affected product, manufactured by Suzanna’s Kitchen in Norcross, Georgia, includes fully cooked grilled chicken breast fillets with rib meat. The recalled items, totaling 13,720 pounds, are packaged in 10-lb cases containing two 5-lb bags. Specific identifiers include Lot code: 60104 P1382 287 5 J14 and Establishment number: P-1382.

Distribution was limited to foodservice providers such as restaurants and cafeterias in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Ohio. Consumers are unlikely to have purchased this product for home use.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. FSIS advises anyone concerned about a potential Listeria infection to contact a healthcare provider. Symptoms can include:

  • Fever and flu-like symptoms

  • Muscle aches and fatigue

  • Headache and stiff neck

  • Confusion or loss of balance

  • Seizures

FSIS recommends that foodservice establishments immediately stop using and discard the affected chicken products and follow proper cleaning and sanitation procedures.
