Late 'George and Mildred' Star Leaves Shocking Six-Figure Fortune

The television world mourned in February 2025 following the passing of legendary actor Brian Murphy at the age of 92. Murphy was widely recognized for his portrayal of the long-suffering George Roper in the popular 1970s sitcom 'Man About The House' and its highly successful spin-off, 'George and Mildred', where he starred opposite Yootha Joyce as Mildred.
His wife, Linda Regan, herself known for her role as Yellowcoat April in the iconic BBC sitcom 'Hi-De-Hi', paid a heartfelt tribute to her late husband. She expressed her enduring love, stating, “My love for you will never die. RIP sweetheart.” Brian Murphy is also survived by his two sons, Trevor and Kevin, from his first marriage to Carol Gibson.
Brian Murphy's illustrious career, spanning six decades, saw him accumulate a substantial fortune of £617,000, which is to be bequeathed to his family. Beyond his signature role as George Roper, his extensive acting credits included appearances in 'Casualty', 'Holby City', and 'Benidorm'. He also featured in 'Last of The Summer Wine' as Nora Batty's neighbor. His final role was in the Sky series 'Mr Bigstuff', which was broadcast posthumously.
Murphy, who resided in Kent with Linda, worked until his death on February 2, 2025. His agent and friend, Thomas Bowington, confirmed the sad news, describing Brian as a “joyful and profoundly good-hearted man” and commending his “talent and humanity.” Linda Regan further shared her deep affection, saying, “I was lucky to have found my soulmate in my lifetime, Brian, whom I will love forever.” She later posted a touching photo on X, capturing their last dinner date on a Thames trip, commenting, “We were sooo happy that night. Sleep well my darling soulmate. Thank you for loving me so much.”
The couple met in 1990 while co-starring in a play and married five years later. In an interview two months after his passing, Linda spoke fondly of their happy life together, which included cooking for each other and enjoying classic films by Laurel and Hardy and Buster Keaton, often with a Chinese takeaway and chocolate. Linda Regan's 'Hi-De-Hi' ran for nine series from 1981 to 1988, set at a seaside holiday camp and also featuring stars like Su Pollard, Ruth Madoc, and Jeffrey Holland.
