KPop Demon Hunters' 'Golden' Reigns Supreme, Tying UK No. 1 Record

The musical landscape of August and September 2025 has been unequivocally dominated by content from the film KPop Demon Hunters, achieving unprecedented chart presence across Billboard’s various rankings and the prestigious U.K. Singles Chart. This phenomenon highlights a significant cultural and commercial impact, driven by substantial streaming figures and sales data.
Billboard’s Top Movie Songs chart, powered by Tunefind (a Songtradr company), witnessed a rare occurrence in August 2025. For the first time since its inception last October, the entire 10-position chart comprised the exact same rankings from the previous month. KPop Demon Hunters maintained its formidable presence with eight songs on the August survey, while Superman also held its ground with two entries. The ranking methodology for this chart combines song and film data from Tunefind with sales and streaming information tracked by Luminate during the corresponding period, including newly released films from the preceding three months.
While the overall makeup of the Top Movie Songs chart remained static, the order within Billboard’s Top TV Songs list saw some shifts. However, one constant was HUNTR/X’s “Golden” from the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters, which topped this chart for the second consecutive month. This runaway hit has also spent six weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 since mid-August, accumulating a staggering 163.4 million official on-demand U.S. streams and selling 36,000 downloads throughout August, according to Luminate. The film, released on June 20, has evolved into an ever-growing phenomenon, even prompting a limited theatrical singalong release in late August. Reflecting its widespread appeal, KPop Demon Hunters songs occupied the top seven positions on the Top TV Songs chart. Specifically, Saja Boys’ “Soda Pop” claimed the runner-up spot for August (91.1 million streams, 14,000 sold), ascending from its No. 2 rank on the July survey. HUNTR/X’s “How It’s Done” also made a notable leap from No. 6 to No. 3, achieving 85.6 million streams and 11,000 sales. The Superman film, which premiered in theaters on July 11, continued its representation on the charts with Teddybears’ Iggy Pop-featuring “Punkrocker” and Noah and the Whale’s “5 Years Time,” securing positions at No. 8 and No. 10, respectively. “Punkrocker” garnered 10.1 million streams and 4,000 paid downloads in August, and its Superman synch notably propelled it to the Billboard’s Alternative Digital Song Sales chart, where it spent two weeks at No. 1 (July 26 and August 2).
The dominance of KPop Demon Hunters extended across the Atlantic to the U.K. Singles Chart. On Friday, September 26, “Golden” by HUNTR/X achieved its eighth consecutive week at No. 1, a feat that equaled a long-standing record for the longest-running No. 1 single by an animated act. This ties with The Archies’ “Sugar Sugar,” which also reigned for eight weeks back in 1969, surpassing Disney’s Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” which held the top spot for seven weeks in 2022. Further illustrating the film’s widespread appeal, other songs from KPop Demon Hunters also charted in the U.K., with Saja Boys’ “Soda Pop” reaching No. 5 and “Your Idol” securing No. 6.
Beyond the phenomenon of KPop Demon Hunters, the U.K. Singles Chart also saw other significant movements. Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” settled at No. 2 for a fifth consecutive week as she released her sophomore album, The Art of Loving; this breakthrough track also climbed to No. 30 on the Hot 100 in the U.S., marking her highest-ever placement. Lewis Capaldi made the week’s highest new entry with “Something in the Heavens,” landing at No. 3 and securing his 10th top 10 single on the U.K. charts. RAYE’s comeback track, “Where Is My Husband?,” stormed into the top five to finish at No. 4, following her previous U.K. No. 1 single “Escapism” (2022). Rihanna also experienced surprise success with her 2007 track “Breakin’ Dishes,” which rose to No. 19, marking its first-ever top 20 appearance, in the same week she announced the birth of her third child.
